Super Hottie - Lauren Graham

Bio:
Lauren was born in Honolulu, HI. When she was five, her parents divorced. Her mother, Donna Grant, moved to London to join a rock-n-roll band. Lauren and her father, Lawrence, moved to the D.C. area where he became a congressional staffer and single parent. He is currently a lobbyist for the chocolate and confection industry. Lauren discovered acting while in elementary school. She began acting in community theatre and any other production she could find. She traveled extensively with her father while growing up. She earned a Bachelor's degree in English from Barnard College in New York City. Lauren then moved to Texas where she earned a Master's Degree in Acting at Southern Methodist University. She then returned to New York where she worked as a cocktail waitress and aspiring actress. In 1995, she moved to Hollywood. In addition to her many guest staring and co-staring roles on prime time TV, she had three starring roles on failed sitcoms before landing the lead role of Lorelai Gilmore on the WB's "Gilmore Girls." In addition, she has had many roles in theatrical movies, including several NYU student films and several major studio releases. See the list of her credits below. Miss Graham has never been married and now lives in West Hollywood. Lauren would like to return to the stage and hopes she will never have to do a Porky's movie or be asked to have plastic surgery.

More about Gilmore Girls:
Show's creator discusses casting Lauren Graham as Lorelai Gilmore

"The biggest stumbling block for this show," says Amy Sherman-Palladino, "was casting it, because this show hinged on finding the right Lorelai. This is a very hard character to cast, to find this 32-year-old woman who has this kind of acting chops, who can do comedy, who can do drama, who can handle this much dialogue, who can talk fast and has such a presence to keep it going."
At the same time Gilmore Girls was getting ready to shoot, actress Lauren Graham was working on an NBC show called M.Y.O.B. that still hadn't aired. She read Sherman-Palladino's script and liked the character, the sense of humor and the rhythm of the speech.
"It was a voice that was very familiar to me," says Graham, who grew up in a single-parent household, albeit one run by a single father. "It was something I related to. Sometimes you look at something and think, 'How can I fit myself into this? How can I find a way that this would be something I could imagine myself in?' This was something I could immediately imagine myself in." Graham didn't know whether she'd be free to do the show, but she would at least star in the pilot.
For Graham, the initial success of the show will mean continuing a string of 14-hour days spent acting and memorizing dialogue-packed scripts. "I can't think of another character on TV who talks this much," says Graham, who admits that as a youngster, much to her horror, she memorized the Lewis Carroll poem Jabberwocky and would recite it for company.
"If you watch Charmed or Dawson's Creek or some of the other shows, it's a lot about the silences. This show is very, very verbal. It really deals in language. Everybody's talking a lot and talking very, very fast -- my character in particular."
After a string of roles on modestly successful shows, including NewsRadio and Caroline in the City, Graham is more than happy to be working this hard.
"This is definitely the best thing I've been on," she says. "This is a character I will enjoy living with, if it lasts a while."
